If you have ever gotten a radio hit using 2.4ghz....

What radio and how many times?
I just want to see if it is getting more frequent.
And where were you...

Never, not one hit and I have been using it for about 3 years.

Britt, read the thread in this forum "Info about 2.4 systems from AMA Insider. You may be expereincing a low voltage condition. If you're using a seperate battery pack, make sure its a fresh one, not one that's been cycled 300 times and insure it's fully charged.

Well I had full charge..... and the plane did two rolls by itself.. FREAKED me out!!!

I run 6.0Volt packs for the reason not to run 4.8's

Odd..

Tough for me to say as my flying style has often been refered to as a long drawn out series of radio failures set to music. :D

Britt,

The low voltage lockout can be caused by several things: i.e. a bound servo, using more than the recommended number of servos, etc. Anything that can put excessive load on the battery can cause the battery to sag. It is not just caused by using a poorly charged battery.

That is the reason that I have switched to A123 batteries Rx packs in all my nitro planes. They have a very flat discharge curve and hold their voltage until the pack is almost empty. They also have a very high discharge rate that prevents sag if you over amp them. I can fly 3 -4 10 minute flights and recharge in 15 minutes.

Does your Rx have the fast reconnect software. You can check by turning on your Tx then your Rx (Rx has solid light) then turn your Rx off and back on. If the light in the Rx is blinking you have the fast reconnect software. If not you can send the Rx back to Horizon and they will update it for free.

You can tell if you have had a low voltage lockout if you have the fast reconnect and you start your flight with a solid light in the Rx it is blinking when you land.

Hope this helps
Daryl

I will check my Rx's.

You know it could be be cause i swapped ouyt the anolog servos and put digitals in....
Draw more power at times....

You might check the draw on your digitals and see how many amps you would draw if they all are working at once and compare that to the amps available from the battery.

How do you like your setup with the 5cells Britt? I had one in my mustang and the increased servo speed goofed me all up and made it fly jerky unless I added a ton of expo. I went back to a 4.8v 2200 mAh ni-mh for normal control and longer duration due to the retract servo.

I replaced 8 of my RX packs with 4.8v 1200 mAh ni-mh packs
http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/233810.asp
and the packs that I had been using in several expensive planes were scary!

I bought one at a shop here in Anchorage that said 1600 "series" on it and turned out it wasn't even for aircraft, it was a little taiwan car battery of some kind and noone can even tell me what mAh it is. Almost lost my Fokker DVll because of it too. I threw all of those packs away along with anything under 1200mAh.

Well I havent really noticed a big differance with servo throw speed.
I alwats have 40-60 on expo so it isnt real touchy. I have just read over and over that 4.8 is closer to loosing reception with tx to rx. If you have a big Mah battery... then yes you can fly for a while before it gets low BUT>>>>> if your are doing a lot of throwing with ALL servos then it can reduce the amount of voltage and you could easly drop connection. Kind of like all of a sudden turning on MEGA extra lights on your car. All of a sudden the voltage drops. you have a lot of things pulling power at once.

My advice to those with 2.4, Run 6 volt Rx batts.

A lot of peole will agree.

:-)
IF your using little servos on a foamy... 4.8 anythign with gas engines 6.0

That's good to know when I move up to gasoline powered planes. With my little 60 size warbird it flew like a dream yesterday since I switched back to 4.8 but I'm just running cheapy 3004's, Futaba FAAST RX, and a little retract servo. It handled way better and no jerkyness in the controls but I always use about -30 expo and with the high speed of the plane the servos only use tiny movements too.

When I said gas I ment nitro or bigger.
so 60 size I would recommend 6.0volts
